Happy Halloween! All our farm animals at Anna McDonald Farm. Anna is actually in the photo front and center. Have a fun day trick or treating.

The MJHS Staff celebrated Red Ribbon Week by wearing their red on Monday. They “teamed up against drugs” with their favorite team’s sports wear too!

Things are batty in first grade 🦇. This week first grade learned all about bats! They were fortunate enough to have a speaker from the USDA forest service visit each class! Teachers also transformed their classrooms into bat caves for a fun day of learning! #wilsoncreeklearns

Wilson Creek’s Preschool For All on parade! Families were invited to watch preschool at their Halloween parade and were invited into classrooms to continue the celebration with Cruella and the Dalmatians 🐾 #wilsoncreeklearns #wilsoncreekcrew #msd114

Welcome home U.S. Air Force Master Sergeant David Olejarz. Dad, along with family and several officers of the Addison Police Department, dropped in to surprise his little girl Elaina.

U. S. Air Force Master Sergeant David Olejarz surprises his daughter, Ava, during lunch at Manhattan Junior High School. The entire 6th-grade class erupts with applause when they see her running towards Dad and into his embrace! Click here to see the video clip: https://youtu.be/5izae6v4_-E

MJHS held its second Small Group House Meeting where students were reminded of October’s Asset of the Month, integrity, by playing “Pass the Button”. Great work, Demons!

On Tuesday the MJHS ACCESS class visited Gost Coffee, Badda Bings, and Crosswind Farms. Gost Coffee took the students on a tour of their coffee shop and showed them how they roast their coffee beans. At Badda Bings, the students enjoyed delicious food. Lastly, they were able to pick a pumpkin and visit some animals at Crosswind Farms. All of this was made possible thanks to the generous support of the Rainbow Cafe Coffee Cart! Thank you to the MJHS staff who supports their ACCESS students every week by purchasing coffee, tea, and popcorn!

What a gourd-ous day for first grade to get their very own pumpkin delivered from Bothwell Farms! Students were so excited to receive theirs and can’t wait to decorate them! #wilsoncreeklearns #msd114

Congratulations to our MJHS girls’ cross country team for competing at the state meet this weekend. A big Demon shout out to Mr. Hunter Spee for placing 7th in state! Way to run Demons! 🏃🏼♀️🏃♂️

Thank you to the Manhattan Fire Department for making a visit to speak with Kindergarten about fire safety. Students learned how to stay safe, took a look at different pieces of equipment, and even got their own hat to take home! #wilsoncreeklearns #msd114

Mrs. Sandrzyk’s first grade had the opportunity to Skype with her brother in Venezuela to Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month! He and his wife answered so many great questions that the students wondered about! #wilsoncreeklearns #msd114

MJHS 6th Grade Students enjoyed their first reward trip of the year at Haunted Trails today! A great time was had by all.
Go DEMONS!

Fall is here at Anna Mac. Looking forward to Fall PTO parties and the annual Halloween costume parade. Thank you Mrs Fitzpatrick & Mrs Klaric for sprucing up our corner.

This week has been declared “Misophonia Awareness Week” at MJHS and on Thursday 8th graders were lucky enough to learn more about this rare disorder. Lots of thank you’s go out to everyone who helped shed more light on Misophonia this week! Supporting our students in the best ways we know how isn’t just a teacher’s way, it’s the Manhattan way! 💙💙

Over the last two class periods, third graders explored the concept of automation! They were challenged to write a program so that their robot would physically sort animals into their correct habitats (represented by quadrilaterals to tie back to our previous lessons). This sounds like a simple task, but when you consider the amount of knowledge needed to do so, it’s really quite impressive!
When writing the program, students needed to:
Understand the science concept of a habitat and correctly identify the habitats of 5 given animals
Understand the coding concept of an Event (an action performed by the human that signals a computer to respond in a certain way) and recognize that their program would need 4 separate events (one for each habitat)
Understand the coding concept of Sequences (commands in the correct order) and correctly assemble 4 separate sequences, connecting each to an Event
Understand how to use directional commands (drive forward, backward, turn left, turn right) and how to customize the distance driven or degrees turned
When running the program, students needed to…
Be able to READ code in order to decide which sequence would take the selected animal to its habitat, and which event would begin that sequence
As well as how to work as a member of a team, tackle a problem full of ambiguity, and persevere through small failures in order to reach a goal.
Take a minute to watch this in action and consider what an amazing thing this is for a third grader to be able to do!

A reminder for those who make the cheerleading and basketball teams in the next week- all student athletes and a parent/guardian are expected to attend the Athletic Expectations Night on Wednesday, October 19th at MJHS. We’ll see you then, Demons! 🏀📣
