new update

At approximately 7:29 am today, September 11, 2024, school officials were made aware of a concerning communication via social media made by a Manhattan Junior High student.  Any content posing a potential threat to our school and students must be investigated immediately and thoroughly.  MJHS administration and the Manhattan Police collaborated to complete a thorough investigation and the threat was deemed unfounded.

In order to avoid any unnecessary concern for our students and while the situation was handled and police were present, Manhattan Junior High was placed on hold within minutes.  In a hold, there is no immediate threat to anyone on campus. Students and teachers remain secure in their classrooms and conduct business as usual.  Our students were able to transition to their classes. The hold was cleared at 9:34 am and all school operations have returned to normal.

We will continue to keep you informed about important concerns and any use of Standard Response Protocols within our building. The Standard Response Protocol  was adopted by our district last year and will remain in use for any emergency situation. Please note that in the event of a threat present on campus, our school would move into secure or lockdown.  In the event of either, communication to families would begin immediately and continue every 5-10 minutes for the duration of the situation.

The safety and security of our students is our top priority.  We continue to work closely with the Manhattan Police Department to utilize Standard Response Protocols to ensure clear communication and to maximize student safety under varying circumstances.
