Welcome to the Manhattan Junior High School webpage. I am honored and privileged to serve the students, parents, and staff of Manhattan Junior High School for a twelfth year.
Our school offers a robust, comprehensive academic plan for all types of learners. English and Language Arts (ELA) worked tirelessly over the past two years revising and aligning the curriculum with the Common Core State Standards (CCSS). The process is ongoing and our staff continues to work closely with representatives from department representatives at the high school level. By doing so, students should expect a smooth high school transition after graduation. Our math curriculum is CCSS aligned and as a resource, our staff utilizes the 2013 Prentice Hall Common Core Mathematics series. The text is fully aligned and integrated with the common core and is web based, therefore students may access the text via the Internet from home. Our science department is spearheading a committee to align and integrate the newly released Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS). The process will require a great deal of hard work, but in the end, I am confident that our efforts will further enhance our science curriculum.
In addition, students have opportunities to participate in numerous extra-curricular programs throughout the school year. Our school is a member of the DesPlaines Valley Conference (DPVC) and offers a full array of athletics. Fall sports include Cross Country (co-ed) and Girls’ Basketball. Winter sports showcase Cheer-leading, Boys’ Basketball, and Girls’ Volleyball. The sport season concludes with Track and Field (co-ed) in the spring. Fine arts are alive and strong for our school community and include orchestra, choir, and band. Each area of the performing arts has varied levels of ensembles to challenge our students’ musical talents. Last, our school sponsors academic and service clubs such as Mathletes, Speech Contest, Student Council, Green Team, Science Club, Peer Mentoring, Chess Club, and Office Assistants. We have something for everyone.
Please feel free to contact me if I can be of any further service to you.
